Love on a limited budget

This morning, I went to a pharmacy to buy drugs for my mom. I saw two guys, and one was buying drugs for his girlfriend.  He complained that his girlfriend doesn't like eating, which causes her ulcer, so he needs drugs for that. The prices of each medicine were much higher than his expectations. He suggested that he would buy paracetamol for his girlfriend, which earned him laughter from us. The pharmacist asked him whether paracetamol is what one takes when they have an ulcer.  The man chose one drug that cost 18ghc, but was persuaded by the pharmacist to take one that cost 20ghc. With a long face, he went ahead, but only on the condition that the pharmacist would change the price of the medicine to 50ghc, thinking that he would show it to his girlfriend to make her aware of how much this one medicine cost him. Though the pharmacist refused, the man went ahead and did it himself.  When exiting the pharmacy shop, he complained to his friend about being out of cash ...

Love in time of coupons

Two students were assigned to go on a date and bring back a report. So, they decided to go on their date two days before Valentine's Day.  The gentleman boarded an Uber car for the date. They went to a fancy grand restaurant, had a seat, and started small talk to get to know each other. The conversation was going well until the young man proposed to the lady. Disgusted by his appearance, she politely rejected his proposal.  When it was time to order, the man, trying to be frugal, told the lady that the restaurant's food was expensive, so he would buy food from outside and bring it here to eat. Indeed, he bought food from outside without a drink and served the young lady.  When they were done, they left the restaurant for the next location, but the young lady, angry with how the man treated her, decided to go home. Smiling within himself, he obliged. This time, they didn't take an Uber but instead took a trotro. They sat at the back seat in the car. The conductor col...

LOST BUT FOUND

DZOKOE FAFALI  BACS27145   That day was different. The scorching of the sun was out of say. Human beings cannot even lodge within their own compound. It was usual to see animals like lizard, birds, ants, mouse, hen , goats, sheep and all domestic animals around, but that day was different. You can barely hear the sound of anything. Viewing from afar is another problem. Wondering what the cause is , but no solution. It came to mind all of a sudden to fetch water from the river side. Not as usual as I used to do in the afternoons, but I have no idea why that afternoon. On my way, even the grasses along side wasn’t shaking. I can only hear my own footsteps. Upon reaching, I had some thought. Is there a day like this? Why should it be today? Why not another time of my life? And why did I choose to visit the river side in the mid- day, not in the afternoons as I used to do. A cool breeze blew and I wasn’t able to do within minutes. A calmed hug I received at my back. Whom sho...

Its all about your passion.

Waking up early and returning home late had become a tedious routine. I loved my sleep as much as I loved my work, but sometimes I wondered why I was even bothering. The work was demanding, and the pay was minimal, with months-long delays in receiving my salary. To make matters worse, others depended on my work, adding to the pressure. As I lay in bed, staring at the clock screaming "5:49 am, wake up and start your day!", I felt drained. What was the point of it all? I recalled a conversation with my friends at a club two days prior, celebrating our friend's promotion to director in a UK company. Clarke and Rhys teased me about my lack of progress, asking when I'd finally achieve success. I forced a calm response, hiding my frustration: "Very soon." But the words stung, and the doubt lingered.  As I lay in bed, groaning, I decided to play hooky and call in sick to work. My boss was understanding and even told me not to bother coming in tomorrow if I wasn...

CORRUPTION

NAME: UNIKRISTA EWURADJOA KONADU OKYERE INDEX NUMBER: BACS27010 CREATIVE WRITING GROUP (2) Ghana, my motherland.  What happened to you? Your sons and daughters are sinking deep into sadness. The leaders are wolves in sheep’s  skin.  Devouring the fruit of your labor.  Your sons and daughters cry out in agony.  At the high table, they feed on your hard work.

WHO AM I?

NAME: OKYERE KONADU EWURADJOA UNIKRISTA INDEX NUMBER: BACS27010 CREATIVE WRITING GROUP (2) The beautiful beads on her neck is an exotic piece of art of rich origin.  Her beautiful skin blends in with the colorful pattern of her African outfit.  Strings of color and light, each bead, a world unto itself, holding stories with smooth surfaces, glimmering with untold tales. The headscarf on her head is that of a crow.  African culture at its best.  African culture at its best? I question myself. Am I African enough? Deep down, I have lost touch with my rich culture.  The Western lifestyle overshadows my true self.  A daughter of the great land.  Torturing myself with these artificial extensions, imprisoning my natural hair.  Without knowing the significance of these beads on my wrist, indeed, I have lost touch with my true self.

MY PASSION

NAME: Okyere Konadu Ewuradjoa Unikrista INDEX NUMBER: BACS27010 ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND USAGE WRITE YOUR PASSION As a young and vibrant woman, I have a great passion for empowering women. People may say that women who support this movement are feminists but I see this movement surpassing feminism. In our traditional background, we believe men to be dominant in our society. Women are seen as mere or vulnerable beings who always need support or have to depend on men to survive. I stand on the grounds that women can do anything they dream of. In our modern era, women are trying to do something to improve our society. This is seen mostly in the cities or educated societies. As a feminist, my purpose is to educate and support my fellow women who view themselves as weaklings. In the course of empowering women, I will make sure I serve as an example for other women to look up to.  The saying, “ Behind every great man, there is a woman”. There's a whole lot more to this. This shows that...

Dignity in labor

Up and awake ,no prayers but the day begun for Kwesi yeboah. Having parents who do not care about your well being , you would have to go through the thorns  of life for survival. Living on the streets of Accra is very hectic you do not chance upon food so you have get a score for yourself mine was 0-0-1. Oh yeah that was how bad it was , I sleep under bridges without mosquito net, I get bitten by rats and other pests  yet still I decided not to go back home to face humiliation from poverty I endured until humanity had mercy on me.  I met a nice woman who approached my ragged out self and gave me an opportunity to be cleaner at institution . I work there for a couple of years and there was a situation where someone took a huge sum of money from the safe drawers of the boss and lucky for me I chanced on the person but the person didn’t know . I wasn’t having a phone to take a video so I reported it directly to the lady that got me there whom is the over all boss of the inst...

Rainy Monday

First lecture  Mildred Darko-Tawiah -BACS27067 Waking up to the songs of birds and flying aero planes .The weather was perfect for both the young and old ,the traffic that happens each and every time was brought to a standstill and the fear of heat with the pour down of sweat in our dresses was cooled down with the wonderful breeze from the trees along the streets, the hawkers on the road look decoratively beautiful and their goods looked appealing to the eyes.

Blackie Darkie

As the sun kissed the earth, I entered our lecture hall It was clouded with black attire. There and then I appreciated my race . Indeed black is beautiful I exclaimed . Been black is one of the blessings I count twice when counting my blessings we are well endowed and have every resources to anything at anytime.     I sapped out of my imagination when the horrible the smell from the sweaty men approached my nose and the stench from their mouths were all over the place and I realized that been black can be stressful sometimes. You actually expected to do all the hard work as a lay man whiles the white man comes for it to boost their economy whiles ours sink, there is a question mark on our leadership but who do you voice out to? Africa! One body  Africa! One family.  Sprawling rich culture here and there. Today,s fragrance is exceptional. Men, women, boys, girls, young and old adorn in African prints and Fugu. The joy, the smiles amd beauty that comes with this, puts my heart at ease and brightens my day This is culture, this is integrity, this is Africa.

POEM: MUSIC Music, a soothing melody,  In our hearts, it sets us free. Notes dance in the air,  A symphony beyond compare. The poem I shared is about the beauty of music. Music has the power to uplift our spirits and create a sense of harmony within us.

BEADS Ah, African women adorned in beads, a sight that tells of ancient deeds. Each bead a story, a tale to be told, in colors and patterns, traditions unfold. Indeed, beads are very beautiful, especially on African women, when they wear it together with their African wear and the scarf on their hair, it’s simply beautifies them among all.

BLACK  Imagine a world where darkness holds secrets, yet beauty resides within its depths. It’s like a dance between elegance and fear, where black reveals both love and a hint of fright.
